Berry Cinnamon Oats

A good breakfast can set your day off to the right start. Oats are one of the healthiest breakfast options available, not only are these whole grains packed with fiber and nutrients, but they are also low in calories, can lower cholesterol levels, reduce blood sugar levels, improve bowel movement and help you lose weight by making you feel fuller for longer. These are just a few of the benefits of oats.

Oats don’t have to be eaten plain, there are many ways to jazz up a traditional oatmeal porridge in minutes. Here’s one way to easily do so.

1/2 cup old fashioned oats
1 cup water (almond, coconut or other milk of preference)
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt (optional)
1/4 cup blueberries
1 strawberry, sliced

In a small saucepan, bring water or milk, cinnamon and salt to boil on high. Next add the oats and reduce the heat to medium. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally while cooking. Take the oats off the heat, cover the saucepan and allow the oats to rest for about 2 minutes, this is the perfect amount of time to get the fruits ready.

Rinse the fruits with water and dab dry. Next pick off the green top from the strawberry, cut off the head and slice (or chop, whatever your preference is). Pour the oats into a bowl, then add the blueberries and strawberries on top.
